The Horizon
Time is experience –
a multidimensional and ambiguous one. When measured by events it flies
quickly, struggles forward at the speed of news press agencies try
to be the first to break – then falls into oblivion almost immediately.
When measured by the unchanging horizon line it seems to be slowing
down, almost stopping. Only changing structures, colours, the elusive
play of water and sand let us see how it flies.
Zerek’s project bases on the clash between these two experiences
– time measured by nature and described with the variability
of light and ephemeral matter with time measured by people according
to current events. For seven days he visited the same spot on a beach
at many different hours to record the changing horizon line. Each
photo has then been tagged with a piece of news Polish Press Agency
had published at the moment of taking the picture. In these seven
stories depicted in seven photos the world of nature interweaves with
the human world.
